Rev House stands for “revolutionary living spaces” and is dedicated to answering the question of how we can live by, and on, the water in the future. For many people, living close to the water represents improved quality of life, but waterfront lots are limited and very expensive. Houseboats, however, are usually very simple constructions that offer little comfort. The solution is Rev House – floating penthouses that meet the most discerning demands for design, quality and durability. They are completely operational, can be used on all European waterways, and are able to dock in every yacht marina.
For managing partner Lars Voigt, who owns a Berlin-based design store and has many years of experience in interior design, Rev House is the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream to design holistic living spaces. The idea was to create harmony between the object, the users and the environment and to shape something that is a source of wellbeing.
Lars Voigt: “Rev House is aimed at people who have a taste for the extraordinary. People whose lifestyle reflects an appreciation for the extravagance and glory of nature and who also care about superior quality. Rev House boats allow people to realise their dream of having a vacation home on the water, anywhere in the world.”
Rev House is one of the few boat builders that allow customers to draft their very own floor plan. Rev House architects and interior designers develop tailored solutions – including customer specifications such as open fireplaces, underwater lighting, hot tubs and ballrooms.
The basic measurements of a Rev House are 14.90 m by 6.25 m, but the floor plan, fittings and furnishings can be fully customised. The usable floor space totals about 175 m², of which approx. 70 m² is living space and approx. 105 m² is outdoor terraces. A special feature of the boats is the specially developed hull with a basement area of approx. 100 m² and a height of up to 1.80 m, providing plenty of storage space for the technical equipment and household goods.
The high-quality house body with its modern wooden post-and-beam structure, 26 cm thick walls and 30 cm thick ceilings and floors makes it energy efficient and able to withstand winter weather – something conventional houseboats built in sandwich construction or with an aluminum frame cannot provide. Rev House boats comply with German structural standards, and the entire roof and interior floor have a stability and load-bearing capacity (400 kg/m²) that far exceed the usual market standard. The boats fulfils the same structural and energy requirements that are required for homes on dry land.
The boat’s maximum load is approx. ten tonnes and it can take up to 50 people on board. Instead of conventional outboard motors, Rev House boats are driven by state-of-the-art, high-efficiency built-in diesel engines and a sophisticated hydraulic steering system.
Rev houseboats are fully motorised, operational and manoeuvrable vessels, able to moor anywhere that does not present an obstacle to inland shipping. As Rev House boats are certified recreational craft with CE marking, operators are only required to hold a license to drive a recreational vessel. Thanks to its CE marking, unlike stationary houseboats a Rev House boat can be easily registered and used as a recreational craft in all EU member states without the need for any complicated approval or licensing procedures.
Rev House makes some of the best series-production motorised house boats in the world. They meet the highest standards for insulation, heating technology, resilience and durability. Rev House offers a 20-year guarantee on the house body and hull. While the hulls of other boats tend to be built from soft polyethylene, aluminum or impact-sensitive fibreglass, Rev House’s 8 mm steel hull provides 100-percent resistance to ice and floes, allowing the boats to be used in the winter months.
The insulation and steel hull create a pleasant indoor climate on board. Underfloor heating keeps you warm and cozy in winter, and the living spaces have genuine wooden floors. For additional comfort you can customise your houseboat to include an open fireplace, sauna and hot tub. A biological sewage treatment system, solar panels, and drinking water purification system give you a large degree of independence from facilities on land.
The Rev House production site is in the north of Berlin. Once all the details and customer-specific requirements have been discussed, it takes around six to eight months to build a houseboat.
Penthouse living on the water, with a constantly changing backdrop and unobstructed views – a dream come true for design fans and anyone who yearns for a lifestyle of freedom and luxury.
